Exploring Lenormand
It has clicked!
Last year I took a Lenormand workshop at the Northwest Tarot Symposium (NWTS), that I found to be quite fascinating. As I recall, it was my intention to buy a Lenormand deck on my return home to explore. Alas though, I didn’t follow-up.
This year NWTS offered another Lenormand workshop, I found it great as well, so this year I jumped on the opportunity and purchased a great deck before the event ended.
In the days since I’ve been reading the extensive book that came with the deck I purchased, watching videos, and reading what I can online to finally learn this particular system of cartomancy.
I’m finding it to be quite fascinating, and much different from Tarot. The method is quite different, and the scope of information received seems at variance with Tarot as well. More straightforward perhaps.
At quick glance it would seem that Lenormand would be simpler to use than Tarot, but I’m not finding that to be the case. Much different, but not simpler. Perhaps I’ll be able to explain further as I become more experienced with this particular system.
The upshot is that by last night I’d apparently reached a point at which I’d read and watched enough to start moving forward with the Lenormand deck in a meaningful way. I laid out a couple of different spreads about upcoming events in my life, and the meanings of those combinations just clicked for me. I didn’t need to struggle or study to figure out the meanings, they just popped into my head as I considered the cards.
Progress.
I don’t know if Lenormand will ever become a significant part of my life or practice. My love for Tarot, and its deep, complex, and esoteric foundations is extremely strong. But this other system, with its simpler, non-esoteric card images, is certainly interesting, and seems to be quite effective. The important thing is that it gives me an opportunity to learn something new, to exercise my intellect and intuition. That’s always a good thing.

I'm a Waite girl, plus French method sometimes, but I was considering Lenormand. Houseful of spiritual women here- I think I'll get a deck for us to try.
I feel the same about my Lenormand decks too. Tarot has my heart :). I bought a piece of calico and laid out the cards on it, traced the cards and wrote them in order on the material. I used this as the Grand Tabeau and then shuffled and pulled cards to lay on top of the material to give it more insight - I can't remember what this type of reading is called :)
