Learning In Public
And the Queen of Wands
Recently I encountered the following quote, and to contemplate it further I shuffled my Tarot deck and drew the Queen of Wands.
“Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.”
— Samuel Butler
The Queen of Wands is telling us to do it! Take some action, jump right in!
Not a one of us on this earth has everything figured out. We will always have doubts. We will occasionally suffer from imposter syndrome. Because what Mr. Butler writes is true, we are learning as we go, and we are surrounded by others who will watch as we learn. People will see our mistakes, as well as our successes.
Can I actually read Tarot, or am I fooling myself? If I write, will my words resonate with others, or will they be truly awful?
Far too often doubts like this, questions like this, hold us back. We are afraid that we lack necessary skills. We worry that we might be embarrassed if we fail. We think that we can’t possibly do what others may do.
But here our Queen reminds us that if we give into those doubts, we will derail our own success. We will fail because we were afraid to try, or, worse yet, we will fail because we will only try halfheartedly.
This Queen is a Queen of action, and life, and animation. She tells us to get up, get moving, so that we might follow our dreams!
Sure we’ll make mistakes, sure things will never be perfect. And yeah, other people will see those errors. But if we allow that to stop us, we’ll never fulfill our potential.
