I pulled a single card today, asking what lesson we do well to consider and contemplate in the week ahead. The Magician turned up, reminding me of the hermetic maxim “As Above, So Below; As Below, So Above.”
Balance or equilibrium is essential to our spiritual growth. We live our lives in the material world, yet another, higher, part of ourselves lives on the spiritual plane, endeavoring to build ‘that house not made with hands.’
We must find balance between these two fundamental aspects of ourselves. If we were to live only in the world of the spirit, we would surely starve; yet if we live only in the material world we can not achieve the growth necessary for the advancement of the soul.
The material and the spiritual must be held in equilibrium.
We must also find balance between the active and the generative energies contained with us. The active energies illustrated by the male suits of the Tarot, the Wands and Swords; the generative energies illustrated by the female suits, the Cups and Pentacles.
By holding these energies within us in equilibrium, through the active energies impacting on the generative, we create a more perfect self, a more beautiful self.
When we create this balance within ourselves, when we hold the balance between the elements of which we are composed, we are in control of ourselves and our environment. Through that control we can begin to create equilibrium between our material and our spiritual natures.
When all of this equilibrium is achieved and maintained, we are then ready to begin our ascent towards the divine, however we may picture it, as rungs on a ladder or pathways on the tree of life.
This Holiday Season, I wish you and yours the very best.
