Often at the start of a week, or even a day, I will pull a single Tarot card and as I go through my day, see how the meaning of the card’s symbolism connects to whatever comes up.
I’m certainly not unique in this, it is a tremendous way to use Tarot for contemplation, and when we are new, to learn how to communicate through the language of symbolism. Thus, such one card pulls are seemingly ubiquitous among Tarot practitioners.
I was asked recently, why I have an interest in Tarot. My answer back to the person who asked was ‘because it works.’ I’ve always found it to work. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t spend time with it. Symbolism is, for me, an important way of thinking, and understanding. That is one of the reasons I am so heavily involved with Freemasonry as well, for it too communicates through symbols.
But, back to the Six of Swords.
Just prior to the start of this week, I pulled the Six of Swords, and it has sat face up on my desk since.
Late last night, my wife and I were returning to our home from an event. A distance of perhaps 30 miles. Just as we were arriving at our small town, her phone rang. A friend at the event was having car trouble and needed help.
We took our regular exit off the freeway, then jumped right back on it, heading back in the direction from which we had just come. We returned to the event’s location, picked up the person who was having car trouble, and got him safely to his home before returning to our own.
Why do I spend time contemplating Tarot symbolism? Because Tarot works.
