I do use them sometimes, and have since I was in my early 20s. I got a Ralph Blum set at a B. Dalton's book store in the 80s. I have had to unwind some of what I learned from that set, tho I still have the runes. I was going to offer a little trick I have used for decades. If I am in need of a runic consultation but I don't have them, if I am out doors I will find a tree. I will concentrate on the question, then look into the branches. In the tangle of twigs a rune will suddenly stand out. It's like seeing images in clouds. And jumble of more or less straight lines will work. Give it a try...
I created a ceramic set of Runes and a couple of them broke, so I've never really used them. I've always been quite fascinated by the simple stick forms. Maybe I'll make another set someday.
I'm really looking forward to the using Runes with Tarot workshop this weekend, but I do wonder if it is wise to mix different divinatory practices in that way. My hunch is that it might be more effective to keep them separate.
Have a great time at the conference! I've considered going but have never actually pulled the trigger on going. Post some pics when you're there, would love to see them!
Last year was my first time at NWTS, I was a bit hesitant about it, but found it really amazing. If you can attend in the future, I'd certainly recommend it!
I'm the same way. I was actually convinced to attend last year by reading about it on a Tarot blogger from Idaho's website. It was pretty cool to go on his recommendation, and then have the opportunity to meet and spend some time with him.
His review of it through the past handful of years are here:
Thanks! They aren't perfect by any means, but I figure that ultimately they are simply an alphabet, and I'm quite sure that people in the year 225 had bad handwriting, just as people in 2025 do!

Thank you for the tree idea! That is quite superb, and I look forward to giving it a try once I become more comfortable with the Runes!

I'm really happy to find someone who has gone and recommends it. Conferences are so expensive that I'm hesitant to just go on a whim.
