Tarot Without Tarot
Exercising intuition
The other day my local Tarot group met, and in between our holiday festivities we engaged in an exercise to strengthen the intuition. I found the results satisfying, and it to be a good bit of fun, so thought I should share it here.
In a nutshell, we did Tarot readings, without Tarot cards.
Here are the specifics:
We spent a bit of time removing any residual energy and grounding ourselves. Then we paired up, and each of us grabbed a deck of children’s flash cards. Mine were Dr. Seuss themed.
As querent, one of the pair would pose a question, while the other would read for the question as one would normally read Tarot, but using the flashcards instead.
I found the results we obtained to be remarkably good. My partner asked about her job, and based on the feedback I received from her, I think that the reading I was able to give was helpful to her.
When it was my turn to be the querent, I asked her about an interpersonal conflict I’ve been having that has been weighing on my mind quite heavily. She was able to give me a reading that cut right to the heart of the matter, and that helped quite a lot at putting my mind at ease.
I have done this same exercise in the past, during a workshop at a large Tarot conference.
Honestly, it didn’t work for me there.
I think that the difference can be attributed to a handful of things:
-This time we were able to spend some time dispelling any stray energies that may have been lingering about, and some time both grounding ourselves and setting our intentions. That’s something that can’t really be done in a large workshop setting where every minute is at a premium.
-On the querent side, I believe that we all were able to come in with good questions that we hadn’t explored before. In the large workshop setting we’d been doing readings constantly, so were most likely struggling to come up with questions that hadn’t already been explored.
-The group was much smaller and more intimate. We all know each other, and with that knowledge trust has built over time. Allowing guards that we might otherwise hold in place to come down.
Really, there’s nothing to it. Just a Tarot reading with child’s flashcards instead of a Tarot deck. It shows, perhaps, just how large a role our intuition plays in our readings. I’d encourage everyone to give it a try.

Love this! And I love exercises like this. I think yes, it being a smaller and more familiar group of people helped. But it proves that anything can be used as an oracle!
I love this! I read for someone once using an Auto magazine. I asked them to flick through it and find a picture that caught their attention, then read it for them. It hit the spot for them, and proved to me that as amazing as Tarot cards are, they aren’t the only way.
